While reading Romans 1:18-32 I see how I deserve the wrath God has against mankind. Everything I see, do or feel is always about me. I don't worry so much about offending God but when it come to my friends or other people I don't want them to dislike me. I know what scripture is saying about exchanging the glory of immortal Godfor images that look like mortal man. I walk through creation alot of times without a thought of the creator that is revealing his divine nature and eternal power to me through it. When I look at a painting I acknowledge the artist as having great talent or at least would say the artist exists and made the painting. Well God made all the things around me and I need to stop walking by it and start giving Him thanks and praise for it.
It is troublesome to me when I hear of people and mainstream churches accepting sin as something we do not need to repent of. When the church starts to approve of those who practice sin instead of pointing to God who is the way to help us out of our sin they are allowing the sinner to have false hope and giving them approval on earth and ignoring the eternal consequenses.
Homosexuality is just the start. Now will we tell people not to feel bad or feel any need for repentance when we exhibit every other kind of wickedness? We are all full of envy, deceit, murder, strife and malice. We are God haters, gossips, slanderers, insolent, arogant, faithless, heartless and ruthless.
Just because I am all thes things does not mean that I accept who I am and allow satan to have his way with me and give in to the lusts of my flesh. Daily I need to acknowledge that I am a sinner and tell God I am sorry (Repent) ask Him to forgive me and to kill the sin that is trying to pull me from Him and ask that he transform me into his ways.
If I say I am a polygomist and I have a huge sexual appetite and in order to fulfill it I need more than one wife and I was born this way should I be able to grow in who I am and disregard what the bible says? Absolutely not!! Do I take just a few verses and apply them to my situation and make it ok, even though other passages speak against it? Absolutely not!! I have to take Gods word as a whole and if it is contradicting who I think I am I need to ask God to show me who he designed me to be.
God did not put things in his word to make me miserable. He put them in so I would see the truth and I would be able to see when satan is trying to snatch me from Gods grasp. Jesus calls me to deny myself and take up my cross and follow Him because only in Him is there life eternal. We need to quit looking at things from an earthly perspective which will end and start looking from Gods perspective which is eternal. I will start with the Word and end with it, dont change the source of truth but allow it to change me. However humbling that may be!

I think Luther would be very ashamed of how some who have taken his name interpret the bible today. He summarized what you were saying about repentance in his explanation of baptism...
ReplyDelete"What does such baptizing with water indicate?
It indicates that the Old Adam in us should by daily contrition and repentance be drowned and
die with all sins and evil desires, and that a new man should daily emerge and arise to live
before God in righteousness and purity forever."
I agree that we all have plenty of sins to repent of. I have compassion for those who struggle with homosexuality because I have my own struggles. But having said that, consider this... If you want to say that you believe the bible AND that homosexuality is ok, then in order to be consistent, you should also toss out the other sexual "choices" that the bible calls sin. From Leviticus 18...
If the old testament laws are outdated and no longer apply then homosexuality is ok and if homosexuality is ok then...
* Sex with family members must be ok. v6-18
* Sex with your neighbor's wife must be ok. v20
* Abortion must be ok. v21
* Sex with animals must be ok. v23
I don't buy it.
